Signs of sodium toxicosis in dogs can appear after ingesting about 2-3 g/kg of sodium chloride, with an acute lethal dose around 4 g/kg. Common sources include salty snacks, homemade salt dough, ice-melting products, and seawater. Access to plenty of fresh water greatly reduces the risk, but contact a vet if a large amount of salty food was eaten without water available.
