Swallowed unbaked yeast dough keeps fermenting in the warm stomach, producing carbon dioxide and ethanol. The gas expands the dough and distends the stomach, which can progress to life-threatening gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), while the ethanol produced causes alcohol intoxication at the same time. The risk is highest in large, deep-chested breeds, so keep rising dough well out of reach of pets.
