Pistachios aren't strongly toxic on their own, but their high fat and calorie content raises the risk of obesity, digestive upset and pancreatitis if overeaten. The hard shells can tear or block the intestines, and poorly stored nuts can carry mold toxins, so only offer small amounts of shelled, unsalted pistachios.
