Store-bought cultivated mushrooms (button, shiitake, etc.) are generally not a major problem for pets, but wild mushrooms found in yards or on walks are hard to identify, and some species are severely toxic — capable of causing liver failure, kidney failure or death. If your pet eats an unidentified wild mushroom, treat it as an emergency regardless of species and contact a vet immediately; a photo of the mushroom can help with identification.
