Ice cream is high in lactose, sugar and fat all at once, so frequent servings raise the risk of digestive upset, obesity and pancreatitis. Varieties containing chocolate, xylitol ("sugar-free"), grapes/raisins, or macadamia nuts contain ingredients that are directly toxic to pets and must never be given. Lactose-free ice cream made specifically for pets is a much safer alternative.
