Cooked bones aren't chemically toxic, but the cooking process makes them brittle and prone to splintering into sharp fragments that can perforate or block the esophagus and intestines, often requiring emergency surgery. This applies to any cooked bone — chicken, fish, rib and more. Raw bones splinter less but still carry risks of tooth fracture, bacterial contamination and choking. Talk to your vet before giving any bone to choose an appropriate type and size.
