Cheese has less lactose than milk, so a small piece is usually fine for most dogs as an occasional treat or to hide medication. It's still high in fat and sodium, so frequent or large amounts raise the risk of obesity and pancreatitis — stick to small bits of low-fat cheese. Cats are more commonly lactose intolerant than dogs, so extra caution is warranted, and rabbits should not be given any dairy.
